We design in 3D. Our technical staff includes registered engineers, LEED® Accredited Professionals, and Commissioning Authorities certified by the GBCI, ASHRAE, Tridium/ Niagara Controls Platform development, and AABC Commissioning Group.
We are dedicated to providing quality assurance services using the latest tools and innovative solutions to maximize facility operating efficiencies. We look for EcoCapitalists that believe a holistic sustainable approach is a marketable advantage with long term dividends.
Technical Designs can help you understand how to improve your property to reach whatever goals you have in mind..
March 2015: Technical Designs engineered a Combined Heat and Power Solution for the Hotel Nikko San Francisco. The design called for two Capstone C65 (65kW) microturbines to increase energy efficiency by simultaneously generating electricity for the building’s power and thermal energy for the hotel’s domestic hot water supply. Known as Combined Heat and Power (CHP), or cogeneration, the exhaust heat captured from the microturbines is transferred to heat exchangers to be converted into thermal energy for hot water production.
March 2021: Mark Hauenstein accepted as an International Fellow Chartered Building Engineer member by CABE.
"When it comes to building systems, Mark is a "reniassance man" in that he has depth of expertise at the conceptual and detail level in HVAC, control systems, Energy (Leed) life cycle cost, and other mechanical and electrical systems found in buildings. His insights into value for his customer and uncompromising integrity make him the "go to" guy for any new or retrofit building systems design."
Dave's work in the built environment with such companies as Viconics Electronics, Trane, and Staefa Controls has made him a huge resource with the evolution of controls.ERIC STERN, FAA Reno Technical Operations Manager
"The Federal Aviation Administration deals with many vendors and Technical Designs stood out due to their performance on this project. They were an asset to the successful completion of this project. I would not hesitate to call upon their services again for future projects."

Controls and Energy Strategies that work.
Three merging trends began to make designing with legacy control stragegies impossible: 1) the trend toward more factory mounted controls and less field installed components; which has led to finger pointing between vendors and control installation companies, as to what is provided and by whom? 2) the incorporation of more smart devices and communication protocols (see url) and 3) the desire to use more sophisticated control strategies that incorporate “smart” energy savings such as automated demand response and LEED building control strategies and features. Technical Designs set out to find a better method to manage this problem for our Clients. The result was the ability to write the building control software, test this software off line, hand this software off to the installing contractor and manage the commissioning process over the web from anywhere in the world. Using VMware and web tools, the engineers at Technical Designs that conceived how the building was to perform, now verify this in real time. Just as designing in 3D does not allow you to “fake” it, no longer will the engineer be allow to throw a few half baked ideas at the control contractor expecting everything to magically work.×
Integrated Project Delivery
Technical Designs became interested early on in the use of Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) . IPD is simply the use of web based tools that support consultants with specific expertise to collaborate on a single design model that exists in the cloud where team members have direct access in real time. This process could be applied to any type of project: from designing a circuit board to movie production. Technical Designs focused on what knowledge we bring to the process and developed the tools and skills necessary to support the building design process within the construction industry.×
